About loans

  • Who has access to the library’s books? Students and employees at the Stockholm University, and any person over the age of 18 with a valid Swedish photo ID. Also, anyone over the age of 18 enrolled at a Swedish university other than Stockholm University, who can prove this by presenting a valid ID along with proof of enrollment.
  • Library card You will need a library card in order to use the Library’s services. There are three kinds of cards: the University card for enrolled students and employees, the library card for external users, and a guest library card.
  • Loan terms and conditions By borrowing books from the Stockholm University Library you agree to the library loan terms and conditions
  • Borrowing and Returning the Library’s Books Books from any of our libraries may be borrowed and returned at all of our libraries. You will need a library card or a PIN-code log in to use the self-service book checkouts.
  • Textbooks The material on Stockholm University’s course literature lists can be borrowed from Frescati Library and several other university’s library branches with subject specialisation.
  • Read and download e-books Many of the Stockholm University library books are e-books. They are available to students and employees of the university, and to visitors in the library.
  • Conditions and Terms of Use for E-resources The Stockholm University Library has agreements with many suppliers of e-books, e-journals and databases.
  • Loan Periods The library’s textbooks has a loan period of seven days. All other literature has a loan period of 28 days. Periodicals, reference books, and old or rare materials can not be borrowed, but are available for reading in the library building. Are there no reservations for the books you have borrowed, you may renew the loans up to 25 times by logging in to "My Pages". Also, the loans will be renewed automatically, if there are no reservations for the title.
  • Place a hold for a book You can request a book if all copies of a book are on loan. The book will be reserved for you when it is returned to the library.
  • Material in the Repository We process ordered books Monday through Friday. If you order a book/journal before 8 a.m. it will be made available for you the same day. Orders placed after 8 a.m. will be available the following day.
  • Direct Delivery As an employee of Stockholm University, you may order books from Frescati Library and have them delivered to your university staff mailbox. Use of this service requires an active university card with a correct departmental address. Some material is not available for direct delivery.
  • Digitalisation Scanning materials from the Stockholm University Library collections.
  • Fines for Overdue Materials The library charges fines for books that are returned late. The fine rate is at 10 SEK per book, per day. If you have fines in excess of 100 SEK you will not be able to use your card.
  • Lost or damaged materials If you’ve lost a book or other materials borrowed from Stockholm University Library you have to either buy a new copy of the book, of the same or a later edition, or pay a replacement fee of 600 SEK. The least expensive option is usually to buy a new copy.
  • Talking Books for Reading Impairments Students at Stockholm University who, due to an impairment, find it difficult to read printed text can get access to talking books. Students get a talking books account in Legimus through the library. We show you how to use and order talking books.
  • Order material Students and employees at Stockholm University can order books, articles and other media resources that are not available at the library.
  • Interlibrary loans for other libraries It is possible for other libraries to make interlibrary loans from Stockholm University Library. Book loans are free of charge. Articles are sent by mail for a fee. Order through our form or through Libris.

Monday - Thursday: 8 am - 9.30 pm
Friday: 8 am - 6 pm
Saturday - Sunday: 9 am -5 pm
