2000 celebrated in Aula Magna

The Conferment of Master's Degrees filled Aula Magna to the brim twice on the same day when those who applied for their degree on an advanced level during the spring term were celebrated.

As many as 730 graduates with a master's degree or equivalent on an advanced level attended the Conferment of Master's Degrees last Friday, which is an all time high. There were two ceremonies; one for graduates from the Faculty of Social Sciences and one for the graduates from the Faculties of Laws, Humanities and Science.

A welcome from the Vice President

Vice President Clas Hättestrand congratulated on the graduation and pointed out in his welcoming speech that the university degree is not only an important milestone in the graduates' careers:

Your degrees are also important for us, as a University. One important task for universities is to collaborate with the rest of the society and to make sure that the knowledge that is being produced here will benefit the public. And you are, without doubt, the primary bearers of this knowledge from the university! What you have gained during your years here will help to build a better society and based on the scientific method, tackle society’s challenges of today and the future.

Congratulations from the Student Union

The President of Stockholm University Student Union, Disa Ahlblom-Berg, congratulated all graduates and also wished that everyone have had fun during their studies.

The University is a very good place to meet friends and get involved in different clubs and associations. We hope that you have been able to find something that fits you that has contributed to making your time at the University a bit easier.

Best wishes from the conferrers

The faculties' congratulations, thoughtful words and best wishes for the future were given by the conferrers, i.e. the people appointed by each faculty to award the diplomas to those present: Torben Spaak, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law, Stefan Helgesson, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Magnus Nermo, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Annica Ekman, Deputy Chair, Matemathical-Physics Section of the Faculty of Science.

In an era when we are flooded with information, and where some of it is fake, your competence and understanding of research and science will be invaluable. I very much hope that the scientific way of thinking will remain with you in the future.

Alumni encouraged to stay in touch

Alumni Coordinator Karin Bohlin Folcker, who gave the closing speech to the graduates, urged everyone to stay connected on LinkedIn and the SU Alumni Network and ended with:

Thank you for choosing Stockholm University and for contributing to the University and to student life. Now follow your curiosity and continue to explore, ask questions, choose new paths and discover new destinations. Congratulations alumni and good luck on your new journey!

There is a lot of excitement in the air today and it feels really good to gather classmates and other scholars to celebrate our successes.

Fully booked auditorium - twice

The total number of graduates with friends and family was over 1000 per ceremony. In other words, the auditorium of Aula Magna was filled almost to the brim twice on the same day.

In addition, the live broadcasts had a total of almost 5000 views.

Entertainment and mingle

The ceremonies were gilded with music by Austre Brass Quintet and song by the Stockholm University Choir.

Student marshals from the University's various student unions and faculty associations contributed to the execution of the ceremonies. Conferment marshal was Emilia Nygård.

The ceremony was broadcast live and the film can be seen a few more days by following the link below.
