The Swedish Chemical Society Brings Together Chemistry Enthusiasts in June
This summer, chemists from across Sweden will gather as the Swedish Chemical Society hosts its third national meeting. This time, the event will take place in Västerås, bringing together participants from both academia and industry. The planning is led by Berit Olofsson, Professor of Organic Chemistry at Stockholm University, and Mark Rutland, Professor of Surface and Corrosion Science at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology.

– I look forward to meeting colleagues and listening to exciting lectures in a relaxed setting. I highly recommend both established and early-career researchers to join and contribute to strengthening the Swedish chemistry network, says Berit Olofsson.
The conference takes an interdisciplinary approach, bringing together approximately 500 participants from all areas of chemistry, spanning both research and industry. A recurring theme is sustainable chemistry—an interdisciplinary field exploring how new materials, energy solutions, and environmentally friendly methods can contribute to a more sustainable world. Stockholm University's Centre for Circular and Sustainable Systems (SUCCeSS) is organizing a half-day program dedicated to this topic.
Over the course of three days, participants will experience inspiring lectures, workshops, and poster sessions. The new President of Stockholm University, Hans Adolfsson, will take part in a panel discussion on the future of chemistry. A key aim of the conference is to create a platform where young researchers can connect and present their work. As a result, submissions from early-career researchers have been prioritized.
– The national meetings are crucial for maintaining Swedish research networks and providing doctoral students with the opportunity to present their work to a larger audience beyond their immediate colleagues. This can be challenging at international conferences, yet it is an essential part of doctoral training, says Berit Olofsson.
The national meeting will take place at the Steam Hotel in Västerås from 16-18 June.
