New international students welcomed and greeted during Arrival Service

Stockholm University's Arrival Service took place at the Frescati campus and Arlanda Airport on Sunday January 16. With the event, the "Welcome activities" for the upcoming spring semester 2022 officially kicked off.

During the Arrival Service, welcome teams with student ambassadors and university staff met and greeted the newcomers.

Free shuttle buses

At Stockholm Arlanda Airport, free shuttle buses were offered for newly arrived students, transporting them directly from the airport to campus. At the Frescati campus, many students took the chance to ask questions concerning anything from how to get around in Stockholm to how to get started with their studies. The Housing Office was there to provide keys to students who have received housing, and accommodation information to all newcomers.

Seeing snow for the first time

Students from Europe and many other countries all over the world met at the Arrival Service event. Although snow has melted in Stockholm and the first signs of spring can be spotted in the city, many students were excited to be in a Nordic country and eager to try out ice-skating, snowboarding and other winter sports.

“I love snow. Coming to Sweden and seeing snow for the first time is really exciting”, says Nayla, a student from Thailand.

Adaptations in times of Covid-19

Like most events nowadays (and all of the events included in the Welcome activities), Arrival Service was adapted to the circumstances caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We limited the number of students in every shuttle bus and used half of the bus capacity in order to spread people throughout the bus. Masks were worn the whole time – even when outdoors – and hand sanitisers were provided. We also updated the students with information about the restrictions in place in Sweden”, said Adriana Jimenez, project manager for the Welcome activities.
