Stockholm University ranks 69 in the world

Stockholm University is ranked at place 69 in the latest edition of the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2020, also known as the Shanghai Ranking, placing the university second in Sweden.

The result means that Stockholm University consolidates its position on the list with the top 100 universities in the world.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), better known as Shanghai Ranking, is made by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and is often listed as one of the three most prestigious university rankings in the world, along with QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Research quality and highly cited researchers

The Shanghai Ranking measures the quality of research, including indicators such as the number of alumni and employed researchers who have won Nobel Prizes, the number of “highly cited” researchers and the number of articles published in the journals Nature and Science.

Top universities in the world

This year’s list is, as in previous years, topped by the American universities Harvard and Stanford, followed by British University of Cambridge in third place. Karolinska Institutet is ranked primarily among Swedish universities, at place 45, with Stockholm University second at place 69 and Uppsala University third in Sweden at place 77.
