The Swedish government appoints Presidents for higher education institutions based on proposals from the respective institution’s board. The appointment for a President is for six years and can be renewed a maximum of two times, with three years each time.

The current President, Astrid Söderbergh Widding’s appointment will expire on January 31st, 2025, and the process of finding her successor is underway. The recruitment group has created a requirements profile for the qualifications that are requested, and the last day for submitting applications is March 15th.

The recruitment group will conduct interviews during the spring and select the candidate(s) to be presented to the Consultative Assembly, which represents teachers, employees, and students. After receiving the Assembly’s opinion, the recruitment group will submit their proposal to the university board, which ultimately decides on the proposal. The goal is to reach a decision on a proposal for a new President by September 2024 at the latest.

The advertisement for the position can be seen here.
