”The Art of Self-Defense: Literature At a Moment of Danger”

Ulf Olsson, professor emeritus of literary studies at Stockholm University.

The conference took place in Vilnius, Lithuania, 3-6 August, and was arranged by the International Association for Scandinavian Studies (IASS) and the Scandinavian Centre at Vilnius University. Researchers from twenty countries participated in the conference.

In his keynote lecture ”The Art of Self-Defense: Literature At a Moment of Danger”, Ulf Olsson talked about the diaries written by Åsa Lindeborg, Ulf Lundell and Lars Norén in the recent years. He discussed how these diaries problematize and deal with the subject and writing in a time with a growing threat from extreme right populism, and the dismantling of the old welfare society under the neo liberalism of our times.
