Social Studies Education

The aim of the research group is to encourage publications and develop project ideas for social studies education research based at the Department of Teaching and Learning. In this effort, we cooperate with Swedish and international researchers doing similar work.

Teaching developing research in subject matter didaktik

The research group shares a strong interest in teaching development research. The research often takes its starting point in a challenge that has been identified in teaching, or in research, and it is often carried out in collaboration between researchers and teachers.

About me

I am teacher and researcher specializing in social science education (Didaktik). My professional background includes extensive experience teaching social studies and history at the upper secondary school level in Sweden. This teaching experience has significantly shaped my research interests, which often center on teaching and learning of social studies, with a particular focus on economics and financial literacy as integral aspects of citizenship education. Additionally, I contribute to the training of future teachers through my involvement in various teacher education programs.

Since 2026, I have been leading the research project Understand, Influence, and Change: Economic Education for the Citizens of the Future. The project aims to develop teaching that can invite students to elaborate a more holistic understanding of the economy, where both personal finance and broader economic dimensions are included.




Does the picture say more than a thousand words?

Visual models such as diagrams and flowcharts are popular tools in social studies education. But how well do students understand these models? And how can teaching be designed to make these models more effective in student learning? These are the questions we explore in this project.
