About me

I was born in Narsingdi, Bangladesh. After finishing my early education in Narsingdi, I received my 1st master of science in Chemistry degree from Jagannath University (2007) and Master of Philosophy (M. Phil) degree in Chemistry from Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2011 under the supervision of Prof. Shariff Enamul Kabir and ‘Title of my thesis: Di-iron Carbonyl Complexes Bearing Dithiolato, Thienyl and Furyl Ligands: Synthesis, Structures, Reactivity and Catalytical Properties Studies. During that period, I was awarded a Jahangirnagar University Fellowship and a National Science and Information and Communication Technology Fellowship.

In the same year, 2011, I was nominated for an Erasmus Mundus Europe Asia (EMEA) Fellowship from the European Union and joined as a PhD student in Prof. Ebbe Nordlander’s research group at Chemical Physics, Department of Chemistry, Lund University, Sweden. Title of my thesis: Iron Carbonyl Clusters as Proton Reduction Catalysts. My PhD research was focused on the development of organometallic catalyst, di- and triiron carbonyl complexes as bioinspired electrocatalysts for proton reduction. This involved the synthesis and characterization of functional models for hydrogenases based on di- and triiron dithiolato- or diphosphido-bridged or chalcogenide-capped clusters and various nitrogen- and phosphorus-containing derivatives. The ability of these compounds to act as proton reduction catalysts to produce molecular hydrogen was investigated by using electrochemical and photochemical techniques.

 During my PhD research (2011-2016), I collaborated and worked as a visiting scientist in King’s College London and University College London, England with Dr. Graeme Hogarth and University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia with Prof. Stephen B. Colbran. After my PhD, I employed as a teaching assistant in Lund University (2017-2018). I had been teaching as a lecturer in chemistry in Bangladesh.

From 2019 I had been working at the department of chemistry in Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Lund University and as a postdoctoral researcher jointly with Prof. Tönu Pullerits (LU) and Kaibo Zheng (DTU). I was involved to synthesis and characterization of transition metal-based catalyst, QDs and nanoparticles, photochemical reaction, electrochemistry and their catalytic activity studies for proton reduction.

Currently, I am working as a researcher at Organic Chemistry Department, Stockholm University in the group of Prof. Björn Åkermark on homogeneous-heterogeneous water splitting.

I am an experienced on the synthesis and characterization of organometallic and coordination complexes, organic ligands, transition metal-based complexes, nanoparticles, catalytic materials, different spectroscopies, article writing, student supervision and chromatographic and separation techniques and their electrochemical, electrocatalytic, photocatalytic properties studies for proton reduction, CO2 reduction and H2O oxidation etc. I am interested in the field of organic/organometallic/catalyst synthesis as well as the development of transition metal-based catalysts for H2, CO2 reduction and H2O oxidation for future fuel.
