About me

PhD. in Literature 2014. Researcher and lecturer.

As a literary scholar and teacher of literature, I am primarily interested in the Western literature of the twentieth century and the relation between documentary and fictional genres. My dissertation Det litterära med reportaget: om litteraritet som journalistisk strategi och etik was published in 2013 and is currently being reworked and updated in English. There I examine the genre of modern literary reportage and engage in the dual task of describing how literary techniques establish credibility and ethics and how ‘literarity’ as a concept is affected by such a displacement from the traditional domains of fiction. Theoretically, my research has employed and combined a wide range of approaches – from narratology and speech act theory to phenomenology and the philosophy of dialogue. The aim of both the thesis and further research is to bring forth documentary issues and phenomena that are beyond the classic conceptions of representation and the prevailing ideas of fact and fiction as a dichotomy. In my current project, I analyse a wider field of documentary genre, mainly Scandinavian, focusing on the documentary construction of ‘real’ voices and its performative motions of address and illocution. This includes proposals on new methods of analysing documentary literature and a profound inspiration from modern documentary film research, which has, in a similar way, handled questions of the ‘documentary’ in relation to representation.
