Research

My PhD project focuses on the influence of seasonal sea ice on water quality in the Baltic Sea. My project aims to evaluate how the varying ice conditions influence physical conditions such as hydrography, currents and spread of river inflow and how do these physical properties effect the water quality and the light field under the surface and consequently, for example, the development of phytoplankton spring bloom. My main supervisors are Susanne Kartzer, Prof. Matti Leppäranta at the University of Helsinki, Finland. My PhD project is co-funded by Swedish Space Board (SNSB) and the Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences at SU. Please go to my ResearchGate profile for the list of publications and for updates on my current projects.

I hold a Master of Science in Geophysics. My studies in geophysics included physics, physical oceanography, snow and ice geophysics, and hydrology. As a minor subject I studied limnology and environmental sciences. Conducting my PhD research in a marine ecology environment has taught me the importance of interdisciplinary research in order to understand marine ecosystems as a whole and to improve their sustainable management.
