The Galaxy group

The Galaxy Group at the Astronomy Department investigates how galaxies form and evolve across cosmic time. We combine ground- and space-based observations spanning the full electromagnetic spectrum with advanced theoretical modelling to understand the astrophysics that formed and shaped the galaxies we see today.

About me

Hi! My name is Giacomo and I am a PhD candidate specialized in the study of star-formation, resolved stellar populations, color-magnitude diagram modelling, star formation history and the chemical evolution of low-mass, low-metallicity galaxies in the nearby Universe. My research combines HST and JWST observations with stellar evolution modeling to try to understand how these galaxies form, interact and evolve. I am the main developer of SFERA2.0, a state-of-the-art Python\Fortran code to derive detailed star-formation histories of galaxies from their resolved stars color–magnitude diagrams. I am an active member of the FEAST (probes Feedback in Emerging extrAgalactic Star clusTers) and the JWST and HST IZw18 GTO international collaborations. Alongside my research, I love science education and teaching, an interest that I foster thanks to many activities as science comunicator, teaching assistant at the astronomy department for Bachelor and Master level courses, and my research collaboration with the Department of teaching and learning at Stockholm University.
