Helén Knutes Nyqvist

Helen Knutes Nyqvist, is a senior lecturer and researcher at the Department of Special Education, Stockholm University. She has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate (advanced) courses since 2010 in Special Needs Education and Inclusive Education within the Teacher Education programme and the Special Educators´ programme. For the past five years, Helen has also worked as the Study Director responsible for courses in Special Education as part of the Teacher Educational programmes at the Department of Special Education. 

Helen Knutes Nyqvist’s main research interests take, at a general level, a point of departure in seeking to understand human meaning-making; studying different aspects of inclusion and participation in Education and in Society. She earned her doctoral degree in Education at the Department of Education, Stockholm University, with the thesis focused on studying why and what does it involve for an individual to perform Arts and Crafts, using phenomenological theory and an ethnographic approach. She has a special interest in Disability Arts, in the use of Aesthetics in Education and at a more general level - in the meaning of creating Arts, Arts and Crafts and Crafts at an individual and a societal level.
