Ingrida Karina-Berzina

I am a doctoral candidate in intellectual property at the Department of Law, researching a thesis on bad faith in trademark and domain name law. My background is in private practice. I previously practiced as an attorney at law (New Jersey and Pennsylvania, United States), a sworn advocate in Latvia and an EU trademark and design attorney. 

Education

I have a bachelor's degree, with distinction in History, from Yale University; a master's in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy (Tufts University, Massachusetts), and a juris doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law. Additional professional training includes workshops on domain name dispute resolution at the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center in Geneva.

Teaching and Lecturing

I am a regular guest lecturer and course leader at the Riga Graduate School of Law and the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, and speak quite frequently on various intellectual property topics.

Research Interests

Intellectual property law including trademarks, patents, copyright, design rights and copyright; trade secret law; intellectual property enforcement and the judiciary; the Enforcement Directive; domain names; IT contracts.

Professional Activities

I serve on the editorial board of The Trademark Reporter, the quarterly academic publication of the International Trademark Association (INTA), am a member of AIPPI, and serve as a domain name panelist at WIPO.
