About me

I hold a BA in Japanese Studies and an MA in Visual Culture from the University of Copenhagen. As part of my studies, I was enrolled for one year at the Waseda University School of International Liberal Arts (早稲田大学 国際教養学) in Tokyo, Japan. My MA thesis was titled “Out with the Old, in with the New – Tatsumi Yoshihiro’s Abandon the Old in Tokyo and the New Japan.” I have been pursuing doctoral studies at Stockholm University since Spring 2017.

I teach the course “Japanese Popular Culture” (HT2019, HT2021). I also conduct select lectures in the courses “Introduction to Japanese Studies” and “Manga Studies.”

My PhD thesis focuses on recycled animation, also called bank footage, in anime. The aim of my research is to document the presence of this recycling, explore the material conditions leading to its prevalence, and analyze the impact of its use on the form of anime as a whole, with an eye to potential future developments resulting from the impact of digital technology.
