Jacobus Pienaar Associate Professor

About me

A central theme in my research concerns individuals’ social and organizational (psychosocial) working conditions and how these relate to both individual and organizational outcomes. I have a particular interest in job insecurity as a defining feature of contemporary working life.

I trained as an Industrial Psychologist in South Africa, where I also completed my PhD. Since 2018, I have been based in the Department of Psychology at Stockholm University, actively involved in all aspects of academic life—including teaching, supervision, and academic leadership.

My teaching experience spans research methodology and various topics within work and organizational psychology. Currently, I am the course coordinator for a course on consultancy practice within the psychologist training programme.

I have successfully supervised PhD, Masters and undergraduate theses, and I continue to support students at different levels of their academic development.

Throughout my academic career, I have served on numerous committees and held leadership and adminstrative roles, contributing to university governance and programme development.
