Jayarajan Ramasamy

About me

I hold a Ph.D. from Pondicherry University, where I worked on the development of green methods for the synthesis of skeletally diverse biologically relevant small organic molecules. Later, I started my postdoctoral research career at IIT Bombay as a Young Scientist with Prof. Debabrata Maiti, where I worked on transition metal-catalyzed remote selective C−H bond functionalization. In February 2019, I joined the research group of Prof. Kálmán Szabó at Stockholm University as a Wenner-Gren Postdoctoral Fellow. Since then I have been working on enantioselective 1,2-borotropic rearrangements using an organocatalytic strategy.

Teaching

Worked as Assistant Professor at Achariya Engineering College, India from January to June 2015. Chemistry teaching & laboratory sessions for bachelor students were the major responsibilities. 

Research

Presently I am working on developing new asymmetric organocatalytic methods for the synthesis of enantiopure organoboran derivatives.

  • Organocatalytic Synthesis of α‐Trifluoromethyl Allylboronic Acids by Enantioselective 1,2-Borotropic Migration

    Chiral α-substituted allylboronic acids were synthesized by asymmetric homologation of alkenylboronic acids using CF3/TMS-diazomethanes in the presence of BINOL catalyst and ethanol. The chiral α-substituted allylboronic acids were reacted with aldehydes or oxidized to alcohols in situ with a high degree of chirality transfer. The oxygen-sensitive allylboronic acids can be purified via their isolated diaminonaphthalene (DanH)-protected derivatives. The highly reactive purified allylboronic acids reacted in a self-catalyzed reaction at room temperature with ketones, imines, and indoles to give congested trifluoromethylated homoallylic alcohols/amines with up to three contiguous stereocenters.
