About me

I'm working on a PhD in theatre and performance studies since 2017. My background is in various disciplines, such as aesthetics, and I have a broad, interdisciplinary approach to art and culture. I'm particularly interested in research that exposes and challenges predominant values and ideology - in other words critical theory.

My current research concerns experiences of presence in performance, with a focus on how presence is understood as something beyond what can be discerned and described. I relate primarily to contemporary performance studies, but also to other theory and to performance.

The intangible status of presence connects to a concept of void. My idea of void takes as its starting point Zeami's theories on nō theatre, which describe what makes a performance effective and the value of secrets and ambiguity. I've previously studied the interplay between appearing och non-appearing elements in Zeami's theories, see (in Swedish, English abstract only). In my dissertation void is treated as a lack of content that is at the same time necessary for meaning-making.
