SOFI’s gender research group GAINS (Gender Analysis and Interdisciplinary research Network, Stockholm) is a cross-disciplinary research environment that aims to facilitate social science research on issues related to gender. Our focus areas include the labor market, health, education, and family relations.

Social policy (SOCPOL)

Research at the Social Policy unit includes investigating explanations for the development of the welfare state, as well as the effects of social policy on an individual and societal level, often in an international comparative perspective and with quantitative research methods.

About me

Marie Evertsson is Professor of Sociology in Social Policy at the Swedish Institute for Social Research (SOFI). Since August 2024, she is also the Director of SOFI. 

Evertsson is the course coordinator of Gender and gender structures. Changes and stability in institutions, policies and practices, at the advanced level, Department of Sociology.

Evertsson’s research focus on gender inequalities in the home and in the labor market. She studies the gendered division of paid and unpaid work and the degree to which family policies influence women's and men's labor market prospects. Evertsson has had an ERC Consolidator Grant to study the transition to parenthood and the division of care and paid work in different-sex and same-sex couples in the Nordic countries, the Netherlands and the US. The GENPARENT project (ERC CoG #771770) (2018-2024). 

Evertsson is a fellow of the European Academy of Sociology
