About me

I am a Marine Geologist with a PhD awarded in 2007 from the Graduate School of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island, USA. My thesis was on the paleoceanographic and geologic development of the Arctic Ocean during the Cenozoic. Before joining the Department of Geological Sciences at Stockholm University as a Research Scientist in 2012, I held 2 post-doctoral fellowships, and was a Lecturer at Cardiff University in the UK. My research focuses on deciphering the Quaternary glacial history of the Arctic Ocean using marine sediment cores and geophysical data; analysing sedimentary records to understand the development and variability of sea ice and marine terminating glaciers in the geologic past; and deciphering how key tectonic events associated with the Cenozoic development of the Arctic Ocean are related to palaeoceanographic changes. I also have a broad research interest in the physical and geothermal properties of marine sediments and routinely collect geotechnical and marine heat flow data from the Arctic Ocean and Baltic Sea. This data is used to explore the tectonic and sedimentary history of different geologic regions, investigate subsurface fluid flow systems, and provide boundary conditions for modeling the dynamics of marine methane hydrates.
