About me

Per Krusell is a professor of economics, and the director, at the Institute for International Economic Studies (IIES) at Stockholm University. He previously held permanent positions as professo at London School of Economics, Princeton University, and the University of Rochester; he was an assistant professor at Northwestern University and University of Pennsylvania after receiving his PhD at the University of Minnesota in 1992.

Professor Krusell’s research lies within macroeconomics, broadly defined: he has made contributions to the studies of economic growth as well as business cycles, monetary economics, inequality, labor markets, public and political economics, and over more than a decade he has conducted research on the interplay between the climate and the economy. His paper, jointly with Tony Smith, on income and wealth inequality in the macroeconomy has been cited over 3,500 times (Google Scholar, December, 2025).

Professor Krusell has received numerous awards and fellowships, e.g., an ERC Advanced grant, and two consecutive Wallenberg Scholar grants; he is a Fellow of the Econometric Society, a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Economic Association, an honorary doctor at the European University Institute, and a member the NBER (USA) and the CEPR (EU). He has published a large number of research papers in international peer-reviewed journals, with over 23,000 Google Scholar citations (December, 2025), and been the main PhD supervisor for more than sixty students.
