About me

PhD student since September 2017. My research interests are 20th Century literature, mainly Latin American or Spanish, and, more broadly, trauma literatures and erotic literature.

Literature I: Literature, society, and politics ,7,5 ECTS

I have also launched, designed as well as taught the course Postcolonial Literary Studies, 7,5 ECTS (LVGN14)

In my PhD thesis, I study the three Latin American writers Luisa Valenzuela, Cristina Peri Rossi, and Gloria Gervitz and how they elaborate traumatic experience in their works. I argue that all three of them have a distinct style with which they form their literary languages of trauma: they resort to the erotic. Studying the fusions, transitions, and relations between trauma and the erotic in these writers offers important insights into the originality of their work. My study shows that although Valenzuela, Peri Rossi, and Gervitz share this style of blending a traumatic and an erotic language, they nevertheless turn to wholly different literary strategies and temporal models in their oeuvres in order to achieve it. Studying the temporal presentation of trauma in each writer - a synchronic approach in Valenzuela, a diachronic in Peri Rossi, and a circular/intra-generational in Gervitz - offers new perspectives on the diversity of styles and techniques with which erotic languages of trauma appear in 20th Century Hispanic literature. On the whole, the thesis contributes with new insights about these three authors and their work, but also more generally about literary trauma theory and erotic literatures.
