Research seminar: Investigating the processes underlying turn-taking in conversation

In the talk Sara Bögels will discuss her research, including EEG, behavioral, and ultrasound methods, on the processes involved in turn-taking. She hopes to show that conversationalists start planning their response to a current turn as soon as they can, although such planning-during-listening appears to be less efficient than planning in the clear, and then launch their response based on late (prosodic) cues in the ongoing turn. She will also go into the importance of long response times and her current work on turn-taking in digital communication.

The seminar will be held in English.

Sara Bögels is an Assistant professor at the Centre for Language Studies and the Department of Language and Communication at Radboud University. Her research focuses on interactive language use and the factors that affect it and are affected by it.
