REGAPS Work package 1

REGAPS Work package 1: Experiences, formation of and obstacles for help-seeking in the case of gambling problems. This work package looks at the societal handling of gambling problems, in terms of how problems are defined or identified by the gambler or those around him or her, how care giving personnel and agencies respond to cases, and how treatment provision affects and fits into the life-trajectory of people with gambling problems.

WP1 offers:

• Practical insights into how persons with excessive gambling themselves reason about their needs for support and treatment, as well as barriers to and experiences of help-seeking.
• A review of available treatment possibilities over time in Sweden and differences between different organisations and regions.
• Ideas about how support and treatment options can be formulated in order to lower help-seeking thresholds and support recovery.
• Strategies for reducing stigma related to gambling problems which in turn could lead to an increase in treatment utilization.
