Research project Tree bark as a renewable source of wood protection materials for building applications (BarkBuild)
Inspired by the natural protective function of tree bark, the BarkBuild project aims to develop new wood treatment formulations and bark-based composites for wood building materials.
We will use the bark´s polyphenols and other components for wood coatings and impregnation due to their protective properties against microorganisms and insects. In this way, the project contributes to solving the societal challenge of climate change by developing new, sustainable wooden building materials with lower environmental impact compared to existing commercial products.
