Our coastal research combines several disciplines, to reach a broad and multidisciplinary understanding of the coasts of the Baltic Sea and how they are affected by human activities, pollution and climate change.
Our research combines knowledge from geology, oceanography, biogeochemistry, ecology and economics for a broad and interdisciplinary understanding of the coastal ecosystem of the Baltic Sea and how it is affected by human activities, pollution and climate change.
We also study the effects of various management measures, such as nature conservation, fishing bans and ecological restoration, on biodiversity, including population diversity and ecosystem functions. The research is carried out both in the field, including at the Askö Laboratory and with the vessel R/V Electra, but we also work with numerical modelling and evidence synthesis. An important goal of our studies is to provide scientific support to coastal zone management.
