Gender research is conducted from a number of theoretical positions and different methodological approaches and focuses, among other things, on historically marginalised actors, reinterpretations of art, architecture, and design from gender theoretical perspectives, and critical analyses of art history writing and knowledge production. Thus, gender research not only contributes to a reinterpretation of existing knowledge but also opens up new areas of knowledge production. Gender research within Art History at the Department spans a variety of materials and eras, from Baroque monastic culture, nineteenth century women landscape architects, and the gendered art world of modernism to late twentieth century photography, feminist historiography, and contemporary art and exhibition practices.
