The prison and the other closed institutions are associated with the most intrusive measures and the most severe punishment we have in Sweden. The research touches on various aspects of lock-in and punishment. An overarching question is what effects punishment and lock-in have on individuals who are admitted to closed institutions.
The research is about recidivism, effects of different lengths on punishment and exclusion strategies. It is also about experiences of being locked up in a closed institution and about compulsory care of young people based on gender, class and ethnicity.
