In Victimology research, we focus on the victim instead of the perpetrator. The subject provides in-depth knowledge of, and increases, the understanding of crime victims.
Research on crime victims, victimology, highlights different perspectives on victims based on a variety of scientific issues, theoretical inputs and empirical data. Victimology allows us the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of the complexity that exposure to crime can entail. Among other things, the research focuses on different types of crime and risk factors from a victimological perspective. The legal system's contact with victims and the impact of criminal policy are also studied.
Stockholm University has a strong tradition of victimology research and teaching that has been going on for two decades. Courses in the subject are given at both undergraduate and advanced levels.
