Here, we have gathered information about the research infrastructure available at the Faculty of Science. The facilities are varied and there is no sharp definition of what constitutes an infrastructure. If you are interested in using any facility, please contact designated person.

Advanced Light Microscope 

The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics has two confokalmicroscopes (Leica SP1 point scanning confocal and Yocogava CSU-22Spinning disk system), and two epifluorescensmicroscopes and one FACS.

Royal Institute of Technology Applied physics and Stockholm University Physics jointly run this facility located in AlbaNova University.

AlbaNovas telescope

The AlbaNova Telescope is the largest operating optical telescope in Sweden, with a primary mirror diameter of 1 metre and a focal point distance of 11 metres. It weighs 2.3 metric tonnes (approximately 5 100 lb).

Askö Laboratory 

Askö Laboratory is located on the island of Askö in the archipelago south of Stockholm. The field station is a national resource, open to any scientist with an interest to study the Baltic Sea or to conduct environmental monitoring.

Aspvreten Research Station 

The station is included in the national Swedish air-monitoring network and is also used in various research projects. 2018 the measurements were moved from Aspvreten to Norunda (60°05′N, 17°29′E), 30 km north of Uppsala.

Bergius Botanic Garden 

The primary objective of the Bergius Botanic Garden is to support teaching and research about plant diversity, but the garden is also a recreational spot and a source of botanical knowledge for all its visitors.

Bioinformatics support

Open to all graduate students and researchers at Stockholm University and is an open service where you can go to discuss your project at the planning stage, get help with analysis and advice on how to proceed.

Core Processing Laboratory (CPL) 

Possibility for logging, scanning and photographing of sediment cores. Belongs to the Department of Geological Sciences.

Electron microscopy center - EMC 

The basis for EMC is several well-equipped high quality analytical transmission electron microscopes (TEM) and scanning electron microscopes (SEM) as well as two skilled instrument responsible.

Experimental Core Facility (ECF)

ECF is a modern research infrastructure offering opportunities for in vivo studies in mice and rats for basic research in biology, as well as applied research aimed to discover new treatment modalities. The mice and rats in ECF are maintained in an enriched environment with humidification and temperature control, and the staff is well trained in animal care. ECF can also offer advanced instrumentation for imaging and metabolism, with the aim to enable reproducible and state-of-the-art research studies.

Imaging facility at Stockholm University - IFSU 

IFSU is a Core Facility for light- and electron-microscopy at Stockholm University. It offers services to users of advanced imaging at Stockholm University as well as from other institutions; provides hands-on training and advice for experimental set up and for instance guidance to the most suitable instrument to solve a specific imaging problem.

Institute for Solar Physics 

The Institute for Solar Physics is a national research infrastructure under the Swedish Research Council. It is managed as an independent institute associated with Stockholm University through its Department of Astronomy. We operate the Swedish 1-meter Solar Telescope (SST) on La Palma, currently the most highly resolving solar telescope in the world.

R/V Electra af Askö 

Stockholm University Baltic Sea Centre provides a top-modern research vessel for research in the Baltic Sea. The ice-breaking vessel is 24,3 metres long and 7 metres wide. It is equipped with technical instruments for water- sediment- and geophysical sampling.

The Intravital Microscopy Facility of Stockholm University (IVMSU) 

A national infrastructure for advanced bioimaging. IVMSU is an open access facility and is equipped for a broad range of IVM-applications that require both multi- and single-photon microscopy. The equipment enables imaging of the dynamics of biological processes at cellular and subcellular levels, in the native environment and at high resolution.

Laser Spectroscopy Laboratory (LSL) 

In-situ measures of CO2, CH4 and d13C i CO2 and CH4. The laboratory is a cooperation between ACES and IGV.

Material Analysis Center at Arrhenius Laboratory 

MACAL (Materials Analysis Center at Arrhenius Laboratory) is organized into facilities, each headed by a facility manager who is responsible for maintenance and accessibility of instrumentation and efficient user training. Currently there are six facilities: X-ray diffraction, optical spectroscopy, surface analysis, thermal analysis, physical property characterization, soft matter characterization.

Mechanical workshop services 

The core facility comprises the mechanical workshops at the department IGV, located in Frescati,  and at AlbaNova located in Albano. The services provided by the new core facility will replace services earlier provided by the central workshop, centralverkstaden, at Frescati Backe, which will be decommissioned during spring of 2021.

Laboratory for extraction and analysis of micro- and macrofossils from sediment and peat at the Department of Physical Geography.

Navarino Environmental Observatory (NEO) is a cooperation between Stockholm University and the Academy of Athens and TEMES S.A. and is dedicated to research and education on the climate and environment of the Mediterranean region.

Nordic Optical Telescope 

The Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) is a 2.56-m telescope located at the Spanish "Roque de los Muchachos" Observatory (ORM), La Palma, Canarias, Spain.

The PetroTectonic Analytical Facilities provide geochemical and isotopic analyses of rocks for a variety of geological applications including petrology, mineralogy, fluid-flow and ore formation.

An accredited laboratory for nutrient salt analyzes, especially in water. Specializing in measuring low nutrient salt levels. Belongs to the Department of Ecology, Environment and Plant Sciences.

Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab) is a national center in Stockholm and Uppsala for molecular biosciences with focus on health and environmental research.

Solid State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility

Solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) facility at Stockholm University provides resources and expertise in acquisition and interpretation of NMR data from solid materials. Besides NMR methodology development and support for research groups at Stockholm University, the facility is also open to other universities, institutes and industry.

National Spark Plasma Sintring (SPS) facility 

The facility has two SPS machines, SPS825 and SPS530ET, integrated with glove-box. The SPS facility is capable to subject the materials to rapid sintering cycles in vacuum or inert atmosphere. The materials include but are not restricted to ceramics, metals and alloys, intermetallics, composites and porous materials. The SPS facility can produce sintered materials of both small and large dimensions and handle air-sensitive materials.

The Swedish e-Science Research Centre (SeRC) is an environment within the strategic research area of e-Science, funded by the Swedish government Strategic Research Area Initiative and based on a collaboration between four universities: Kungliga Tekniska högskolan, Stockholms universitet, Karolinska institutet and Linköpings universitet.

Tarfala Research Station 

Tarfala Research Station is run by Stockholm University Baltic Sea Center. The station is located in an alpine setting in the Kebnekaise mountains, northern Sweden.

Tarfala runs a monitoring program including measurements of weather, glaciers, rivers, lakes and vegetation. The stations is equipped with staff and facilities to support science and student projects.

Tovetorp Research Station 

Tovetorp is a Zoological Research Station in Södermanland, south of Stockholm. It conducts research in ethology and ecology and education. The station, which is part of the Department of Zoology, also offers excellent opportunities for meetings of various kinds.
