Planetary health diet

Anarticle published by Lancet, co-authored by Stockholm Resilience Centre and the EAT foundation, provides the first scientific targets for a healthy diet from a sustainable food production system that operates within planetary boundaries for food. The targets promote  plant-based foods as the primary source of protein, but they include 14 grams of red meat per day on average. A reduction of the global consumption of red meat and sugar by 50 per centis required to reach these goals, while consumption of nuts, fruits, vegetables, and legumes must double. Unhealthy diets are the leading cause of ill-health worldwide and following this diet could avoid approximately 11 million premature deaths per year. The diet can exist within planetary boundaries for food production such as use of land, nutrients, freshwater, and biodiversity loss and climate change.
