Research project Swedish Adolescent Learners' Vocabulary in English (SALVE)

SALVE want to increase the understanding of the English vocabulary knowledge of secondary school students and we hope that the outcomes of the project can have practical implications for the teaching, learning and assessment of L2 English.

The project aims to increase the understanding of the English vocabulary knowledge of secondary school students in Sweden. To this end, we will administer a computer adaptive test of L2 English vocabulary knowledge to learners from three stages in the Swedish education system and correlate this knowledge with four factors:

  • Free written production in English
  • Inside- and outside-school English input
  • Grades in English

The outcomes of SALVE are deemed to fill important research gaps and have practical implications for the teaching, learning and assessment of L2 English in Sweden and by extension in other countries.
