This implies an analysis of political and economic power structures at local, national and global levels, and the study of how hierarchical relations between different regions and social groups are upheld and challenged.

This research investigates global development issues from an anthropological perspective. The research implies a critical analysis of political and economic power structures at local, national and global levels, as well as the study of how hierarchical relations between different regions and social groups are upheld and challenged over time. Much of the research at the department within this field has been based in Mexico and Central America, Southeast Asia, East and West Africa, but also Sweden and other parts of Europe. Researchers in global development also have extensive experience of development cooperation, both within research collaboration and through advisory services to for instance Sida and the United Nations.
