Sensory Biology and Animal Communication

The course focuses on animals' sensory systems and how these are used to interact with the environment and to communicate with other animals.

The course deals with the physical properties of sensory stimuli, how these stimuli are detected and encoded to generate behavior with emphasis on how sensory information is used in animal communication. Great emphasis is placed on the evolution of sensory organs and adaptations to different environments and lifestyles.

    Teaching format

    The education consists of lectures and seminars. Participation in seminars is compulsory.

    Assessment

    Measurement of knowledge takes place through written examination and oral presentations.
