Tellus I - Physical Geography, 15 credits

Tellus I – Physical Geography, 15 credits is a basic distance course in Earth sciences.

The course deals with hydrology, mass movements, rivers and flooding, oceans, coast lines, groundwater, the atmosphere and climate, arid regions, geomorphology, Quaternary geology and global changes. The course is obligatory for students of the Bachelor distance program in Geosciences, together with Tellus I – Geology, Tellus II, Tellus III and the field study in Geoscience.

The course is a component of the Bachelor's Programme in Earth Science, Distance Learning, 180 credits and it can also be taken as an individual course.

Course structure

IT-distance via learning platform for distance courses Moodle.  

  • Spring term 2020, IT-distance, Study tempo 50%.
  • Summer term 2020, IT-distance, Study tempo 100%.
  • Autumn term 2020, IT-distance, Study tempo 50%.
  • Spring term 2021, IT-distance, Study tempo 50%.


The course consists of the following course units:

  1. Hydrological Cycle, Mass Movements, Running Water, Oceans and Coasts, Groundwater, 6 credits
  2. Climate, Arid Landscapes, Glaciers and Ice Ages, 6 credits
  3. Project, 3 credits

Teaching format

The course is given only as a distance learning course and the teaching consists of web-based teaching and independent project work.
