Hydrological Modelling

Models and information systems are important tools for water management. This course focuses on different types of models and these are used to describe the flow of water and substances

Time-series analysis is used for examining hydrological data; for analyzing spatially distributed data geographic information systems (GIS) and geostatistical methods are used.

The course is part of Master's Programme in Hydrology, Hydrogeology and Water Resources but can also be read as a separate course.

  • Course structure

    Modules

    1. Computer Exercises, 5 credits
    2. Modelling Methods, 4 credits
    3. Individual Modelling Project, 6 credits

    Teaching format

Instruction consists of lectures, seminars, exercises (computer exercises), project work and laboratory work.

    Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student is expected to be able to:

    • perform hydrological and geoscientific calculations using mathematical and numerical methods
    • describe different types of models and modeling methods
    • independently choose and apply suitable modeling methods for a given problem in hydrology and geosciences
    • apply hydrological and geoscientific models and critically discuss model results.

    Assessment

    For details see syllabus.
