In history, the question of the constituent of time is rarely asked, despite the fact that time is the underlying principle of history. This course wants to explore more closely how different societies have organized their time and how they have related to their own "historicity"; in which mode the past stands to the present and to the future. The course opens for questions about how different "time regimes" determined the relationship between yesterday and tomorrow, in which way the past's difference in historical research, debate and popular culture can shape societies' self-understanding - and whether the cultural heritage industry and museumization have created an increasingly "presentistic"-oriented perception of history.
