Information from the department - programmes
Welcome to the Master's Programme in Language Science! In the end of July, we will send you a welcome letter with more information about the semester start.
All students at Stockholm University must register prior to every semester. For students admitted to the Master's Programme in Language Science, registration will be available in conjunction to the information meeting, August 28th.
Note! If you are conditionally accepted to the programme, we need to see the required documents in order to verify your eligibility.
Education online Autumn 2020
Due to the corona situation the first two obligatory courses, Language in Use and Scientific Methods and Research Ethics, offered during the first period of the autumn semester 2020, will be conducted online.

Stockholm University organises a series of welcome activities that stretch over a few weeks at the beginning of each semester. The programme is voluntary (attendance is optional) and includes Arrival Service at the airport and an Orientation Day, see more details about these events below.

Stockholm University's main campus is in the Frescati area, north of the city centre. While most of our departments and offices are located here, there are also campus areas in other parts of the city.
For new international students
This specialisation provides a comprehensive two-year course of study in Spanish Linguistics. As well as training in the Spanish language you will also study topics in Spanish linguistics within the profile area of the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin America Studies: Pragmatics, Discourse analysis, Interaction analysis, Second Language Acquisition, Syntax and Language change. The programme ends with a 30-credit degree project where, with the assistance of a supervisor, you design and conduct a scientific investigation within the area of Spanish linguistics. Your work with the degree project will develop your ability to conduct a scientific investigation, analyse and discuss your observed data, and produce an academic essay. The programme aims at extending and deepening your knowledge of Spanish, as well as strengthening your knowledge of research methodology and research ethics and your ability to carry out scientific reasoning. The training consists of compulsory courses that are common to the whole programme (30 credits), compulsory courses in the main field of study (45 credits), and optional courses (45 credits). The programme, which provides advanced knowledge and skills in the language sciences, may serve as preparation for Ph.D. studies in Spanish, or for a professional career in connection with language: in schools and higher education.
