The course develops basic knowledge of Japanese phonetics, as well as elementary skills in oral and written Japanese as students practise their Japanses reading and listening comprehension.
It increases knowledge of grammar and vocabulary in order to increase ability in spoken everyday language. It also gives practical writing ability and the emphasis is on developing the ability to read and write in everyday life.

Instruction is given in the form of lectures and excercises, individually and in groups.
