Information from the department - courses
The following information is for students admitted to a course at the Department of Asian, Middle Eastern and Turkish Studies at Stockholm University. We are happy that you want to study with us!
Email to admitted students
If you have been admitted to a course or programme at our department you will recieve an email with information about your studies with us during the next semester.
Registration
When you have a university account, you must register online in Ladok. When you register you claim your place in the course and have the right to participate in lectures and examinations.
Ladok for students
Web registration is open from 28 december 2020. Registration closes one week after the course starts.
In the email from the department you will find information about the registration period for your course. It is important that you registrer before the last date that is listed in the email.
If you are conditionally admitted, you must be able to show that you are eligible for admission no later than course start to claim your place in the course.

Once you register, you get access to the course page on Athena, where you can find important information and course materials.

In Athena you can:
- See course plans and reading instructions
- Receive messages from teachers and the department
- Submit your exams and assignments
- Find schedules
- Find uploaded articles and course materials
In TimeEdit you can find your schedule by searching for course name or course code. You can subscribe to your schedule to get it directly in your mobile calendar.
Teaching and education spring semester 2021
All teaching and examinations at the department will be web-based during spring semester 2021 because of the Coronavirus.
The decision is subject to change based on directives from the government, or the University and faculty boards.

Student office at The Department of Asian, Middle Eastern and Turkish Studies
At the Student Office you can register for courses (in cases where you can't register online) and obtain help with other administrative matters concerning your studies.

Welcome activities
Stockholm University organises a series of welcome activities that stretch over a few weeks at the beginning of each semester. The programme is voluntary (attendance is optional) and includes Arrival Service at the airport and an Orientation Day, see more details about these events below.
Your department may also organise activities for welcoming international students. More information will be provided by your specific department.

Course structure
The course consists of four modules that deal with language proficiency and China studies.

Practical Proficiency IV, 4.5 credits

The teaching is given in the form of lectures, seminars and language exercises individually and in groups.

Assessment
Modern Chinese IV a and IV b are examined through a written assignment at the end of the module.
Practical language proficiency IV is examined through an oral presentation and a final oral examination at the end of the module as well as eight assignments.
China Studies IV is examined through a home exam, an oral presentation and a final translation assignment.

Schedule
The schedule will be available no later than one month before the start of the course. We do not recommend print-outs as changes can occur. At the start of the course, your department will advise where you can find your schedule during the course. -
