Neutron Diffraction in Materials Chemistry, 7.5 credits

The course covers basic crystallographic theory for the description of structures of solid materials, as well as group theory concepts and symmetry relationships between crystalline structures. Basic theory for description of diffraction with x-rays and neutrons, direct and reciprocal space

as well as Ewald construction is introduced, as well as structural factors, proliferation lengths, magnetic spread, phase problem. Instrumentation around neutron diffraction and collection

of neutron diffraction data and and refinement of crystal structures from diffraction data is reviewed.
