About the education

The course is a 10-week course at the advanced level and is given in the Fall term.

Purpose and learning objectives

The purpose of the course is to give the student knowledge of and experience with field and laborative methods used in environmental studies. After completion of the course the student is expected to be able to

- describe the sampling and analytical methods used as well as the critical steps and sources of error for these

- evaluate, interpret, compile and present data and results

- understand and discuss the environmental processes involved in the particular problem investigated.

The sampling and analytical techniques used in the course can vary between years depending on the specific environmental problem being addressed.

Content and teaching methods

The course is comprised of field and laboratory work, lectures, seminars, excercises, and discussions.

The course is given in English unless all students are Swedish speaking.

Subject: Environmental Science

Climate changes, environmental pollutants, ozone depletion, poor air and water quality, changes in landscape, waste disposal, depletion of natural resources, loss of ecosystem services, resilience and biological diversity, etc. The list of environmental problems is long as we humans use the resources nature has to offer without knowing or paying attention to the consequences. Environmental Science is a multi-disciplinary subject which applies knowledge from both the natural and social sciences to identify, understand, prevent, and deal with environmental problems caused by human activities. The Bachelor and Master Programs in Environmental Science offer an education in a natural science with environmental relevance and a background to the societal aspects of environmental problems.
