Modelling of Environmental Pollutants I: Partitioning, Transport, and Exposure

The course deals with different modelling approaches currently used in the research field of environmental chemistry, risk assessment and environmental management.

Purpose and learning objectives

The aim of this course is to support you to deepen your knowledge in environmental chemistry and environmental processes. You will learn about and be able to reflect upon different modelling approaches currently used in the research field of environmental chemistry, as well as in risk assessment and regulation. You will develop your ability to design and apply mechanistic models to investigate and understand how properties of the abiotic environment together with the physical-chemical properties of the substances (organic substances, metals, and radionuclides) govern the environmental fate of those substances as well as the exposure of wildlife to them.

Contents and teaching methods

The course consists of lectures, seminars and exercises. Examples and exercises are taken from applications in current research.
