Master's Programme in Computer and Systems Sciences, 60 credits

Do you have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or similar? Do you want to gain deeper knowledge and find new career opportunities? Then this programme is for you!

This programme is a one-year master’s programme for those who already have a Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or similar. The programme suits those who wish to broaden and deepen their skills and knowledge as a preparation for a successful professional career. It is also suitable if you have studied at another university and want to be closer to the labour market in the Stockholm region.

Compared with the Bachelor's level, you get a deeper knowledge of information technology, its role in business and society, and how it interacts with humans. You will also learn about emerging trends in the field and how future information technology will be used. This one-year programme is focused on advanced courses and includes a short thesis.

The programme is very diverse and offers you the opportunity to select from a variety of courses. Among the elective courses you will find courses in data mining, IT management, information security, business intelligence, decision analysis and IT project management. Additionally, you learn about scientific communication and research methodology.

1st Semester

Elective courses 2 x 7,5 credits

Enterprise Computing and ERP Systems 7,5 credits
The course discusses how enterprise information systems support organizations in value chains and supply chains. The course introduces a number of modern enterprise modelling techniques based on linguistic instruments and economic ontologies. It is shown how these techniques support requirements elicitation for enterprise information systems design.

Data mining in Computer and System Sciences 7,5 credits
As data is becoming more and more readily available, the need to analyse and make use of these large amounts of data is rapidly growing. Data mining deals with techniques that can find interesting and useful patterns in large volumes of data. This course covers basic concepts, techniques and algorithms in data mining combined with hands-on experimentation.

Advanced Requirements Engineering of IT-systems 7,5 credits
Requirements engineering (RE) plays a fundamental role within the systems development process. The goal of this course is to bring in the concepts, methods, techniques and practices needed in the eliciting, analysing, documenting, validating and managing requirements for agile information systems. It explains how RE fits a broader systems development process and provides an understanding of the main challenges in requirements engineering nowadays.

Introduction to testing of IT systems 7,5 credits (taught in Swedish)/Introduktion till testning av IT-system 7,5 hp
Kursen diskuterar hela testcykeln, från enhetstest till systemtest. Fokus ligger på verktyg och testdesigntekniker för programmerare. Det finns därför ett stort praktiskt inslag i kursen där man ska implementera och på ett strukturerat sätt testa kod.

Scientific Communication & Research Methodology 7,5 credits
Big Data with NoSQL Databases 7,5 credits
In this course you will look at technologies, such as Hadoop, developed to handle huge amounts of data. These amounts of data cannot usually be handled by traditional database management systems due to the volume, variation and speed of the data. Alternative forms of representations of data have therefore evolved within the NoSQL framework. The course also deals with predictive modelling with Big data and typical applications.

Elective course 1 x 7,5 credits

Introduction to Information Security 7,5 credits
The course is primarily an introductory course that prepares students for advanced studies in the field of information security and digital security. The course therefore provides a general conceptual framework for the subject area and provide familiarity with the terminology that is relevant to the more specialised security and forensics courses offered by the department.

Management of Global IT Resources 7,5 credits
The trend towards globalisation has determined the multinational companies to increase their attention on the role of information technologies in support of their global operations. In this perspective, the course is addressing the important issues and challenges in managing IT resources in multinational companies.

Big Data with NoSQL Databases 7,5 credits

Research topics in Data Science 7,5 credits
This course introduces current research topics in computer science, which deals with methods and techniques for collecting, organizing and analysing data in order to extract new knowledge. The course provides students with training in identifying and formulating research questions in the area, selecting and applying research methods, planning and carrying out studies, including the collection and analysis of data and reporting results and draw conclusions and relate them to previous work.
