English for Young Learners: Language Education II, 7.5 credits

The purpose of the course is to give the student advanced knowledge of how to work in the classroom in a way that develop language, with particular focus on the grades 4-6 of compulsory school, and knowledge of assessment and grading of English up to grade 6. The course provides advanced subject-specific knowledge of teaching English to young learners. The course treats oral and written activities directed to the English classroom. With a starting point in current research in language education and assessment of language competence, the student is given situations to plan and evaluate teaching in English as well as assess learners’ communication abilities in summative and formative says. The student can work with, present, and motivate classroom activities as well as longer, overarching themes that aim to develop learners’ communicative abilities, with help of, among others, aesthetic teaching processes and digital resources.
