The initiative seeks to promote a more comprehensive approach to urban sustainability based on research taking place the university. Building on and expanding existing work and collaborations it will provide opportunities for new collaborations across disciplinary and organizational boundaries, and seek to create better linkages between the university and stakeholders outside academia.

A first meeting took place on the 26th of November 2019. The participating 18 researchers from eight different departments voiced a strong interest in establishing a ‘safe space’ for discussing both joint interests as well as differences between perspectives. Furthermore, the group concurred that the initiative should be owned and driven by researchers at the university departments and centres, but with practical support from External Relations or others at SU administration.

“This initiative can be a basis for continued collaboration through activities such as joint projects, funding support, courses, idea bank etc.,” says Erik Andersson at Stockholm Resilience Center, one of the researchers behind the initiative.
“But it must offer an added value to everybody involved, i.e. avoid becoming another time cost.”

A second meeting for developing the ideas further is scheduled for the 12th of February.
