Directionals in TAME systems

The topic of this talk is the grammaticalization process by which what I will call directionals – morphemes with meanings like 'up', 'down', 'in', and 'out' – can grammaticalized become involved in the marking of perfectivity. In particular, I want to talk about the ways in which the grammaticalization of directionals leads to their partial or complete integration in the TAME (tense-aspect-mood-evidentiality) systems of the languages in question.
