Tors
Tors

Tors are important because their preservation provides strong evidence of cold-bottomed ice. The aim of this ongoing study, which is being conducted in the Cairngom Mountains of northeastern Scotland is to establish the petrological and structural controls of tor formation. The size of tors has been found to correlate positively with crystal size and joint spacing, whereas tor size correlates negatively with specific surface area of mineral grains.
