Detail of Rock wall

Our research is conducted in the SW Scottish Highlands (greenschist facies) and southern Greece (blueschist facies). We are particularly interested in learning how constant volume replacement occurs during fluid-rock interaction. In the greenschist facies, we are studying constant volume replacements of amphiboles by calcite during carbonation and constant volume replacements of garnet by chlorite during hydration. In the blueschist facies, we are studying constant volume replacements of lawsonite. We envisage that our results will provide clues that help us distinguish between fluid access along crystal boundaries and fluid access through crystals.
