Researchers in the Geology group are studying metamorphic fluid flow in a variety of metamorphic settings. These range from greenschist facies rocks in the SW Scottish Highlands to granulite facies rocks in the Adirondacks. In the SW Scottish Highlands, we are working to unravel and quantify pre-metamorphic spilitisation, syn-metamorphic carbonation and post-metamorphic carbonate-quartz-sulfide veining. These studies are providing field-based quantitative constraints of volumes and flux rates of H2O and CO2 which are mobile at metamorphic conditions.
